Dear Friends,
Spring has finally sprung. After a long, cold winter it's nice to see signs of new life bursting forth in the form of leaves and blossoms. Likewise, our chapter of Lucchesi nel Mondo has sprung forth with great events planned just for you.
On April 4 Lucchesi nel Mondo of Pittsburgh presented a wonderful opera program dedicated to the memory of our beloved Lorenzo Malfatti. We have so many talented members who share their talents with us-artist John DelMonte displayed his fantastic works of art, and Carla Branduzzi provided delicious refreshments that evening. Dr. Alberta Sbragia procured the venue for us, making sure that every detail was in place. Several officers and Board members worked tirelessly to produce what turned out to be a most pleasant evening. In the process, we garnered a few new members. Thank you to all who helped to make the event a great success!
On Sunday, May 4, Susan hosted The Jewelry Bash at our house from 1-4. A few officers and board members offered to help us prepare for the event, described in this newsletter. Vendors donated a percentage of their sales and all money raised was deposited in our club's "Dollars For Scholars" program. Everyone who attended seemed to enjoy being a part of this novel fundraiser.
For La Festa della Repubblica this year, we're collaborating with The Honorary Consul of Italy in Pittsburgh and Duquesne University's Center for International Relations to bring a free concert to our members at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, in The Duquesne University Chapel. We're hoping you'll be there to listen to the splendid talents of the two gentlemen who are traveling from Italy to entertain us: Tenor, Pasquale Carlo Faillaci, and Pianist, Catello Milo. There's no charge for this great event celebrating the Republic of Italy through a wonderful musical program.
You don't want to miss the annual Picnic, where there's fun for everyone. That's going to take place on Sunday, August 23. It will be held once again in the comfort of The Alpine Club, where we can enjoy ourselves rain or shine. Plan to gather the family for this, our most popular Lucchesi event of the year. I hope to see you there!
